ITG FAQ & CLEANING GUIDE

How do I clean my filter?

PLease watch our ITG cleaning guide where you will find a guide on how to clean every type of filter that we manufacture.

Please ensure only ITG oil and cleaner are used, as these have been specially formulated to work with our foam air filters.  If ITG oil is not available Rock oil Factory foam oil and Rock Oil Factory Foam Kleen can be safely used as an alternative.

How often should I clean my filter?

This depends on the filter you have purchased and the conditions you are using them.

Pro Filter WB panel filters and Pro Filter BH cylindrical filters

We recommend that the filter element is cleaned every 10,000 miles/16,000 km, and inspected at least every 12 months. This is a simple procedure, and will ensure that your filter continues to deliver the power improvements over a standard car.  If your car is regularly used in a dusty environment, we advise that you clean and re-oil your filter more regularly.

Maxogen and Megaflow filters (including maxogen induction kits)

If you filter has been exposed without protection in the engine bay, fitted either directly to carburettors/throttle bodies or to air flow meters, you will need to regularly inspect it every other month to make sure that they are still in well oiled condition. Depending on where they are situated and how much work they have to do, will depend on how many times a year you will have to wash and re oil them. We would suggest that due to their close proximity to the engine and the possibility of the oil drying out through the air flow and radiant heat that they are cleaned on a regular 6 monthly basis or more frequently depending on how much use or how dirty they get.

I cannot find the filter I am looking for?

We are able to manufacture any filter for any car. We have hundreds of tools for direct replacement filters for road applications and we may well have one for your car. Please use the contact us form and let us know what it is you are looking for.

How are foam air filters different from other air filters?

Tri-foam gives us the flexibility to produce air filters to exact specifications and, where high flow rates are possible, we can tailor filters to arrest even the slightest dust traces.

Compared to other designs, ITG filters offer many additional advantages, including a significant reduction in noise while providing more power for longer.

What's more, because we use the very latest adhesive technologies to bond the foam layers, ITG filter assemblies are totally resistant to water, fumes, oils, and fuels - including the exotic brews used in racing.

Can I buy from you direct?

No. Our Australian Dealer is Kudos Motorsports.

What filter should I use for my car?

If you a looking just to replace your existing filter that sits inside the OE housing then you should consider our Pro Filter range. These filters offer better flow at low engine speeds and so will offer improvements to throttle response, torque and fuel consumption over the original paper element. They will not offer you increases in peak horsepower due to the restriction placed on the engine on the size of the pipes/ducting that takes the air to the filter as these are designed at the size they are by the manufacturer to reduce noise and emissions.

Do you want an induction kit to replace your OE airbox and produce more power? Whilst ITG make a large range of Maxogen® remote filters, when these are fitted directly to or close by airflow meters they will suck in a great deal of hot air. So despite sounding loud your car will in fact lose power compared to the original manufacturer system unless the remote filter is shielded in some way from the radiant heat produced by the engine and can receive a good supply of ambient air externally from the car. We produce a range of top quality high performance intake systems where the filter is protected from the heat of the engine bay by fitting it inside an air box and providing it with a supply of ambient air to improve internal combustion inside your engine. The improvement in power can be as much as a 10% improvement in peak power or by as much as 12bhp.

If you are looking to use a filter onto carburettors or throttle bodies then our Megaflow range is the filter you are looking for.

Are the filters flame proof?

All of the Megaflow, JC70, JC71 and trumpet socks contain a self extinguishing layer within the foam,  which prevent the filter setting alight from engine spit back.

If there is a particular concern that an engine is susceptible to fuel stand-off where a fine mist of fuel hovers over the ram pipes at certain points in the rev range and can be ignited if the engine misfires or spits back a flame, a stainless steel flame trap layer can be added to the inside of domed filters and the underside of panel filters to prevent this happening. This is also recommended for high value classic cars running carburettors or throttle bodies where the risk of an under bonnet fire far outweighs the extra cost involved.
